Ole Hallow's Eve

I love Halloween and Fall! I get excited to decorate for this season every year! I have several boxes of decorations from the different parties and celebrations that I've had over the years. Like my three fake pumpkins... (because I don't have the time to carve them myself...)

They light up my front steps all season long!

And we all know how much I enjoy fake plants! So I put out a vase of some awesome fake mums and sunflowers since I packed up all the summer stuff that was on the porch.

Creepy skull pot... works well for these nice yellow mums though!

My roommate Erin had this great wine bottle that featured a gorgeous Colorado mountain fall scene. I loved it! It was way to pretty to recycle. So I put some fake flowers in it!

Hung up some creepy cloth to really give it a Halloween feel.
 Replaced my mini chalkboard with a skull and crossbones image.

 

I even switched out the vases and fillers around the TV! Little pumpkins in a jar!

I like to do a center piece on the table every year too, I have a cute one on my coffee table but I forgot to take a picture of it. Anyways. I mixed up a bunch of vintage pieces from thrift stores that were all in the same tones and colors of fall and  put them together along with some pumpkins and sunflowers. I love my little things of candles! I also layered two table clothes together, one is a vintage lace and the other is just a cream colored table cloth. I think they look perty cute!

 

If you follow me onFacebook you've probably already seen some pictures of Sebastian in his Halloween garb as well. He is so small that when the temps are so low in the morning here (I have to get up at 5am to get ready to go to the school I teach at) he starts to shiver and shudder. So he has to wear his little fleece jacket!

I hope everyone is just as excited about the holiday season as I am! Also I would like to mention that I have 37 days left at my current job, and 58 until I graduate from college!!!

Dining Room Ideas

The dining room in my house is in general.... well pretty boring. The thing that I struggle with when it comes to decorating is commiting to wall art. Mostly because I'm afraid once I buy it and set it up I'm not going to like it and then I will be just stuck with it. But! I am trying to broaden my horizons as much as possible.

The space is sort of crowded in that back corner. And yes my cat sits on the table. She hides from the dog up there. I dunno. She's weird like that.  Anyways...

 

Anywaysss.... where the wine rack is right now I've been contemplating putting a little coffee bar or something like that. Here's an example that I found on the interwebs:

I feel like this would be a very simple and pretty cheap thing to create. I already have some shelving that could work. It used to be in my room and now it's just collecting dust in my storage closet. Or I could pick up one that is similar from Hobby Lobby using my coupon for 40% off... I already have perfect little light cups to hang up... (we wouldn't actually use them and I wouldn't want them to be heavy) I even have all the necessary containers for sugar. I would just have to figure out the cabinet. I do have one that could work but it is black and might be kind of bulky...

My only concern is what to put on the other side to create a balance in the space. Something that offers more storage, that's for sure. But I'm just not sure of what yet... hmmm

Any ideas for creating a surface to put the coffee pot on?

Wall-e

I've been working on updating my house in terms of the decor recently. Some of the rooms that haven't changed at all are my dining room and living room. So we're making things fancy huh!

This is what the entry wall looked like before... for a very, very long time!

 

And here's what it looks like now! Bought an antique vanity table, put up a mirror, hung up my cork art and some local bike art. I feel like it looks much, much better! Plus we added a little key hook for the doggy things.

 

 And here's a closer look. I have some plans for some more art work that I want to put up but at this point I think it looks pretty snazzylicious. I found the painting on the far upper right at a local winery. It's of a bike! And it's totally amazing.

 

I'm also starting to do the same thing in the dining room. I have had this cute Pier 1 mirror up for the last four years. It's cute but not very adventurous.

So the first step was getting a new mirror! Found this one in South Dakota for only ten dollars. Sure it's not much yet but it's definitely a move in the right direction in terms of updating the look. :)
