Master-in-Chief Combination

A couple of weeks ago I made the decision to get another roommate in order to help out with some of the expenses. However the room that they would be living in was packed to the rafters in office supplies and furniture.

Somehow I had to fit everything that was in my bedroom and in my office back into my bedroom in an organized fashion. Which is extremely hard when you have a lot of stuff. 

My room was a total disaster during the whole rearranging process, check out the huge mess here:

The desk that I had originally was in a big "L" shape, which I really loved in its spot in the corner of my office. However in my bedroom having that big of a desk took up wayyy too much space. So I decided to detach the corner and the "L" arm and just leave the little part for the monitor and the tower.

Here's an angle of the bookshelf passageway, I hide my printer down on the bottom shelf and wrapped the cords around the back to make it a bit more seamless. So far it's working out okay. I gave the extra part of the desk to my sister for her computer and the chair fits nice and snug at the foot of my bed. I actually really like it!

So does Lucy, it's her new favorite sleeping spot.

Of course it has to get worse before it gets better, check out the chaos on this side!

But I did stack my books all super cute to hide some of the power cords for the computer. I plan on getting some "L" brackets to install into the wall so I can stack even more but it's about desk high right now.

Here's what it looks like at this moment, starting to come together a bit more but still some things that need to be done. For example the mirror sitting on the floor has to go up on the wall and those kind of things. 

Here's the "office corner" right now. I brought my map art from the office into the bedroom.

I love to paint (I painted the big orange flower in the above picture) but storing an easel is kind of hard to do. So I hooked my little one onto the side of the bookshelf. I think it actually looks kind of cool!

Here is the opposite corner where you can kinda see into the bathroom, I love how it's just one big space now!

There's still some things that I need to work on and organize a little better but so far it's worked out pretty well and as much as I miss my office, I think this will be a smart move.

Pillows Finished!

Well after many moons of working on my cute little pillows I have finally finished them!

They were pretty easy to make and they turned out really well. I've made a total of 4 for under $20! How did I do it? 

First I found the burlap fabric super cheap in a remnant bin and then I purchased these iron-transfers from Michael's for $9.99.

And then I printed off my image just from my regular inkjet printer at home after finding the perfect image at the GraphicsFairy blog!

I cut out the image as closely as I could to remove any white spaces...

The next step was to iron it on with the red line faced upwards. When ironing make sure that you don't have the steam going because it'll curl the paper. I tried to be as even as possible to make sure all of the image transferred.

And here is the final product after buying the batting for the pillow:

Doesn't it just look so cute? I really think so. It's adorable. Except that the cats keep sitting on it which makes it look all smooshy. But I have gotten quite a few compliments from friends about how cute it is!

Here's the next ones that I'm working on! This time I'm doing two pillows that are one tandem bike. As I cut out the images I had to sing the "Bicycle built for two" song. Sadly those are the only 4 words of the whole song that I know. But they will be really cute when I'm done!

Thanksgiving!

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is being able see my family. My brother is going to school at Fort Lewis College which is about 4 hours away from where I live and on holidays he gets to come home! Which makes me very happy. I love my family.

And my Mom makes the best stuffing ever. Dad makes the best pies. 

Yay! Plus I get to take home left overs. Starving college student accepts donations!

My friends and I decided that we are going to go out at midnight tonight to start our shopping endeavors. Cross your fingers I can get the camera I want! I'm saying that it is for the blog. :)

Tomorrow we are going to have our own mini-Thanksgiving. Roughly 15 people will be attending. I offered to host it at my house which gives me an excellent opportunity to decorate!

Here's my table as it usually is without the tablecloth. It's very traditional and solid cherry. It's beautiful but there are some scratches on the top from a roommate's dog.

I added the leaf into the table which makes it much bigger! Lucy appreciates the expanded table as well.

I put my usual off-white tablecloth down and took this vintage lace tablecloth that I bought at Goodwill for $1.99. I also took the bench that was under the window and put it along one side which will make for 2 extra seats, so the table will now sit 6.

The lace looks soooo pretty on the table! It could go totally granny if I put plastic over it but with the layers it looks really good.

Next step was to create some sort of center piece dealio. The tablecloth had a couple of stains on it that I had to cover up so I tried to use what I had.

Anddd then I added my one random red leaf into the center.

I like to build layers on the table, which is hard when Lucy decides she needs to help out. But I have two candle holders (also from Goodwill for $4.99) and the vase is an autumny orange color (Goodwill $.79) candle holders with tall white candles in a gold color ($4.99 total) and then the little golden tea light holders (Goodwill $2.49).

I have this small area of counter space that always works great as a buffet area. I took another vintage lace tablecloth and laid it across this area (I hate my counters so I try to hide them) and them I put some candles and flowers in a corner to make it look really cute.

I also set up 4 places at the bar for people to sit. So now I have 10 seats total, 6 at the table and 4 at the counter.

Imagine these filled with food. I bought all of the serving plates (except for the wooden one) at Goodwill also for a total of about $8.00. It'll work pretty well I think! It's going to be kind of like a potluck so we'll have to figure it out and rearrange a little I think.

Here's my pretty new plates and most of the settings! Imagine candles on top of the candle holders and some fake leaves strewn around. It's my first Thanksgiving hosting so I am kinda trying to feel  it out.

Here is the set up for the bar area. I ran out of nice dishes so I just made it all match with the white plastic stuff that I already had. Small steps to grown up hood.
